Satire Essay

Good Morning!

SATIRE ESSAY -- Today we will share our satire essay in a group of four.  You will be given a form to complete and turn in at the end of class.  As there will probably be time, I would like a few of you to share your essay with the class.  This is an extra credit opportunity.  Several of you have written very interesting essays, and it would be great to have the whole class hear them.

HOMEWORK:  Be sure to read over vacation.  You should be able to finish the first of two books required.

SATIRE ESSAY:  I see that some of you have completed your satirical essay and have written over 1,000 words!  For the rest of you, please work this period towards completing the essay and tonight for homework.  Proofread your essay very carefully for errors and, if you can, please have someone else proofread it for content and mechanical errors.  Wednesday I would like us to have reading response groups, and that activity requires that all students have completed the essay.  You will receive points for a fully completed draft on WEDNESDAY (separate from a final grade). There are a wide range of topics!

Friday you responded in your ENGLISH JOURNAL to two student satires, "Satirical Essay on Social Media" and "How to Succeed in School."   Let's look at some of your responses.  (Your response should be a well-developed paragraph).

Satire Process Prompt

Choose an issue in your life or our community that concerns and bothers you and write a satirical essay that critically examines this issue.  Use some of the techniques we have looked at such as, hyperbole, sarcasm and verbal irony, and figurative language. Support your points with evidence that will entertain and inform your audience.
