     Setting -- what does the author want you to notice?

     Character -- what makes a character do what they do? (motivation)

     Author's choices -- Why does the author have a character saying or doing certain things?

     Plot development -- How does a character contribute to the story?  How does a character's

                                    actions affect the story?
